Lynden introduces new online tools for customers

Posted on Thu, Feb 01, 2018

li-shipment-update-screen.jpgLynden is starting off the new year by offering customers improved online shipping tools. Beginning this month Lynden will introduce Shipment Updates, a new feature that makes it easier for customers to keep track of shipments throughout the shipping process – from receipt by Lynden to delivery.

Customers may choose to receive email updates for all of their shipments or only for the individual shipments they specifically request. The real-time shipment updates are the latest in a suite of online enhancements under development to make it quicker and easier for customers to interact with Lynden. The new feature is available to Lynden customers and can be accessed through either Standard Tracking or EZ Commerce. Customers will be able to include any email party (such as suppliers or their own customers) on the update messages so everyone can see when a shipment is received, enroute and when it is delivered. For more information on how to start using Shipment Updates, please visit www.lynden.com/updates

Users of Lynden's EZ Commerce tracking will also see new features in 2018. Applicable shipments will display additional information, providing detail down to the individual pieces of freight on a shipment, including the equipment identification number and type of equipment it is located in. This information will help customers better manage their freight and inventory and will be especially useful for projects or more complex moves. The freight-level detail feature will show automatically in the coming weeks whenever a customer tracks shipments within EZ Commerce.

Delivery receipts are also getting a refresh to better fit customer needs and create a standard look across Lynden companies. The format will be more efficient and easier to read and understand. The new receipts will be rolled out gradually to customers and will include options such as the ability to have multiple shipments on one delivery document, or deliver partial shipments.

"Our goal is to provide Lynden customers with a set of best-in-class self-serve tools, giving them ultimate control and visibility of their shipments," explains Ann Suver, Vice President, Information Technology. "We are proud to offer these new features for our customers."

"When we ask customers for feedback, we often hear that they want more control over their shipments and transparency into the freight movement," says Director of Marketing & Media Ryan Dixon. "Lynden has done a great job of responding to our customers by developing a new self-serve style of tracking, more information about the freight they are shipping and giving them more choice with receipt documentation."

Lynden rolls out new online shipping capabilities for customers

Posted on Fri, Dec 23, 2016

EZC-1.jpgThe year 2017 will usher in new options for Lynden customers in online shipping tools. Lynden is making it easier than ever for customers to initiate shipments with Lynden by replacing EZ Shipping with enhancements to EZ Commerce. These changes are part of an entire suite of online enhancements being developed for customers.

"This is part of an effort to make it quicker and easier for our customers to interact with Lynden," says Ann Suver, Lynden Vice President, Information Technology. "We are creating a set of tools to drive a shipment from quote to payment. The new version will be familiar to our customers but with many exciting new features."

The new functionality within EZ Commerce allows customers to initiate a shipment with Lynden and maintain a set of templates and contacts to make regular shipping easier. A filtering-search and an "on-hold" feature allow customers to prepare shipping forms ahead of time and send them when ready.

When EZ Shipping was first introduced, users were directed to a third-party site to send shipments. Now Lynden can service customers from end to end allowing future upgrades to EZ Commerce. EZ Commerce continues to allow customers to track and trace shipments and generate documents and activity reports.

A group of employees who regularly work with customers from Alaska Marine Lines, Lynden Transport, Lynden International and other Lynden companies served as advisors for testing and feedback on the program. Project Manager Rob Chapman met with the group as it tested the program with customers to fine-tune it before completion.

"This was extremely helpful to identify key areas to improve. Many employees and customers shared ideas and suggestions," Rob says. "We made strides to streamline our administrative and operations processes while building this software to incorporate customer and employee feedback. There is a lot of complexity involved when working with multiple companies offering multiple modes of transportation. We are proud to offer a program of this quality to our customers."

Lynden International expands EZ Commerce to include Domestic Ocean freight

Posted on Wed, Mar 14, 2012

Recently Lynden International expanded the capabilities of their EZ Commerce system. Customers now have the opportunity to use EZ Commerce when moving freight via ocean to a domestic port in Hawaii or Puerto Rico. “We’re doing everything we can to make the shipping process easier and faster for customers”, explains Jeff Bell, Director of the Mid-Pacific Region.

Lynden has had the ability to use the Domestic Bill of Lading for air and ground moves for over 10 years but, with this new capability, now provides customers even more flexibility when choosing a mode. This means customers can ship both priority and deferred shipments, utilizing their existing draft and address book functions.

All ocean services are also displayed when using EZ Tracing and EZ Reporting tools!

Employee ideas save energy and reduce waste

Posted on Tue, Feb 28, 2012

Last year, Lynden’s Green Team once again asked employees for their ideas for Lynden to be "leaner and greener."  The Green Team received more than 100 responses and many ideas have already been put into action.

New paperless processes are available due to employee suggestions. For example, Lynden's IT group has improved systems to upload electronic images eliminating the need to print and then scan.  Lynden Transport and LTI, Inc. are testing electronic-logs to replace paper time cards, and Lynden Transport is testing the use of handheld devices to collect signatures electronically rather than using paper driver records. Lynden International has reduced its greenbar paper waste by 40 percent by changing to electronic reports and eliminating unnecessary prints with their General Office is saving roughly 180,000 sheets of paper and $6,000 per year.

Lynden Recycle LogoThere were a number of recommendations to provide extended training for use of the paperless EZ commerce system. As a result, a Learning Management System (LMS) training piece is currently under development to teach sales, customer service and accounting employees how to help our customers use the EZ commerce.

Energy efficiency was a top priority for employees who responded to the survey. Between 2008 and 2010, nine Lynden locations invested in energy efficiency upgrades such as lighting, motion sensors, dock seals and fans. Together, these investments are saving nearly 1,000 megawatts of electricity, 25,000 therms of natural gas, 415 metric tons of CO2, and over $100,000 per year in energy costs. Lynden Transport's Fife Service Center recently replaced high pressure sodium lights with energy efficient LED lights, and upgrades are underway at Anchorage's South Air Park facility.  Also in 2011, Alaska Hovercraft in Bethel, Alaska Marine Trucking in Juneau, and Lynden Transport in Fairbanks conducted energy audits to identify top priorities for energy efficiency.

Lynden employees asked for recycling at locations where it was not yet available. Recycling programs are now in place at all 60 Lynden locations. Lynden recycles items that are accepted locally as well as toxic items like batteries, fluorescent lights and ink cartridges.  In remote locations in Alaska, the Lynden system is used to backhaul items to locations where they can be recycled.

Lynden Transport offers real time GPS mapping for tracking shipments

Enhanced EZ Tracing and redesigned website puts customer in the driver’s seat

ANCHORAGE – Lynden Transport’s industry leading EZ Tracing system just got better with the addition of GPS mapping of shipment locations while in route over the highway.  By clicking on a link on the Lynden Transport website, customers can monitor their shipments on a digital map that shows the truck as it moves from origin to destination.  Lynden Transport is the only Alaska trucking company to offer this live tracking service to its customers. The company also launched a brand new website, www.lynden.com/ltia, redesigned based on customer feedback for easier navigation.

“We are very interested in customers’ ideas to improve service and value,” says Jim Beck, Lynden Transport President. “Lynden Transport has some long highway routes such as from Texas to Alaska and our customers requested that we provide more than depart and arrive status. With the new GPS live tracking maps we can provide multiple location updates per day.

“GPS mapping adds a dimension of transparency that puts the customer in control and assures them that their shipment will arrive on time,” Beck added. “We plan to expand our network to include freight moving on marine vessels so our customers can see the same visibility on the water as we now offer on land.”
