How and when did you start working for Alaska Marine Trucking? Have you worked for or done projects with other Lynden companies?
I moved to Alaska in October of 2019 and found the job in December. I have not done any projects for other companies, but I do work for Lynden Transport and Alaska Marine Lines as part of my work with Alaska Marine Trucking.
What is a typical day like for you?
I start every day counting the money and making deposits as needed, answering phone and emails, receiving and billing. On certain days of the week I do specialized billing. I also coordinate deliveries, provide quotes for both AML and Lynden Transport, print stickers and help the warehouse.
What has been most challenging in your career?
The most challenging was the initial learning of the job and understanding the different companies and what they do.
What are you most proud of in your career?
I have learned that things are not always black and white; I have learned to adapt and move on in sticky situations.
Can you tell us about your family and growing up years?
I grew up with two sisters and a brother. My parents owned 7-11’s, and we all four worked there while growing up. I was pulling weeds outside, stocking shelves, making sandwiches, and, when we got older, we were able to use the cash register to ring up customers. They paid us with a Slurpee and a hot dog when we finished our work for the day.
What was your first job?
I was a birthday supervisor at Chuck E Cheese, a destination pizza and party restaurant for kids.
What would surprise most people about you?
People say I am so patient, but I think what would surprise them most is that I am actually not patient outside of work.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I started making colorful water bottles to sell at little markets once a month, but I have found myself making these as gifts for people and have not actually sold any. I like to walk trails on the nice days and watch movies with my husband.
What do you like best about your job?
Being able to help customers and feeling that I am needed.
