70_yr_anniversary-1Lynden is celebrating its 70-year anniversary of serving Alaska. In December of 1953, Glen Kok made a trial run to Fairbanks to survey the feasibility of a regular supply route to Alaska. What was supposed to take a week took six weeks due to treacherous driving conditions and mechanical challenges. Upon his return, Glen informed Henry Jansen that a truck with the proper equipment would be able to make the trip on a regular basis. Based on his recommendation, Hank purchased two new trucks. Glen, along with Oscar Roosma, pioneered the first regular scheduled truck service to Alaska on the Alaska Highway (Alcan) in early 1954. The original truck, No. 27, has been restored and is used as a traveling museum. Today, Lynden serves the entire state via air, land, and sea.
