When Lynden Air Cargo carried the first fresh fish out of Bristol Bay in June, it kicked off another record-breaking fish season. According to Account Manager Greg Obeso, Alaska Marine Lines has been busy transporting unprecedented numbers of sockeye salmon from Alaska’s Bristol Bay this summer. Alaska’s huge sockeye harvest, including salmon netted by fishing crews, reached almost 59 million fish as of late July. That tops the previous record of 44.3 million fish. "This year has shattered all previous catch and total salmon run records," Greg says. "In late July, we had around 1,500 live loads waiting for a southbound barge. New reefers were just delivered to handle the volume and salmon processors are grateful to have them," Greg says. John Garcia of Alaska Marine Trucking took the photo above showing stacks of containers in Naknek, filled with salmon and ready for the barge to take them to market.
