As a long-time Lynden customer, Fred Meyer stores depend on Lynden for transport of items to fill store shelves, but also to assist with remodel projects in Alaska. Lynden Transport, Alaska Marine Lines and Alaska Marine Trucking supported the remodel and grand reopening of the Juneau location this spring.

"This project was a big deal in the community, and we were happy to be involved," says Tom Hammack, Account Manager at Alaska Marine Lines. "The Fred Meyer parking lot looked a lot like an AML/Lynden container yard if you shopped or drove by there any time over the last several months."

Beginning last year, Lynden Transport consolidated materials from all over the U.S. at its Fife, WA Service Center, loaded containers and sent them north on Alaska Marine Lines barges to Juneau. Lynden Transport and Alaska Marine Trucking provided ground service upon arrival. Approximately 30 containers were placed onsite in Juneau serving as storage of remodel materials for the project. Lynden also handled the removal of the containers after the project was completed at the end of March.

"This was an example of a customer benefiting from our ability to provide a large number of containers as well as multimodal transportation services, and the ability to consolidate materials for shipment to a job site," explains Jeff Denney, Lynden Transport Regional Sales Manager. "The store did not have capacity for storage of materials for the remodel, so our containers provided a safe, dry place to keep necessary items for the rebuild."

Everything from freezer cases and flooring to shelving, industrial cooking appliances and lighting fixtures were collected, consolidated, transported, and stored onsite by Lynden companies for the project.

"We pride ourselves on our ability to offer diverse services to our customers, and this definitely came into play for this project," Jeff says.

Tom and Jeff were joined by Ray Thibodeau from Alaska Marine Lines and Adam Anderson and Carolyn Smith from Alaska Marine Trucking at the grand reopening ceremony. "We’re proud of our strong relationship with Alaska Marine Lines and the Lynden team," says Juneau Store Manager Shawn Norton. "Their reliable service and support played a key role in the success of our Fred Meyer grand re-opening, helping us deliver on time and with confidence. Ray and the AML team have been great partners and have helped to ensure we deliver the freshest products to the Juneau community."
