How and when did you start working for Knik?
In 1997, I worked on the Heavy Apron Airport project in my hometown of McGrath, AK and have been working for Knik ever since.

What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day for me is an adventure. I never know what I’ll be working on next. Whether running equipment or coordinating the crew, daily adjustments are required which keeps me on my toes.

What has been most challenging in your career?
Building the bridge approaches on our Parks Highway Project stands out as the most challenging. It consisted of constructing a 40-foot depth road embankment with a steep 2:1 slope. We utilized our double-belly dump combination trucks to haul the fill material to me, and I dumped and spread the material with a dozer. Efficiently orchestrating the flow of long trucks in a concentrated area adjacent to the busy Alaskan highway wasn’t something I was accustomed to coming from our rural projects!

What are you most proud of in your career?
Coming back to my hometown in 2020 as a superintendent after a long career traveling to Knik job sites. Also, starting and completing two large multi-year projects: McGrath Airport Reconstruction and McGrath Streambank Stabilization.

Can you tell us about your family?
I have been married for 47 years to my wife Rosalie. We have two sons and two daughters that have given us 10 grandchildren.

What was your first job?
Working on the Trans-Alaska pipeline in 1976 as a service oiler.

What would surprise people most about you?
I love to fly and own my own airplane.

How do you spend your time outside of work?
Outside of work it’s all about family!

What do you like best about your job?
Working with a lot of people I trust, and the satisfaction of a job well done.
