How and when did you start working for Lynden?
Lynden employee introduced me to the company. Turns out Lynden was hiring warehouse workers and, almost 34 years later, I’m still here!

What is a typical day like for you?
My typical workday start at 04:00 and ends around 17:00 – No, I do not actually work that many hours but for the past five years my commute to work is 80 miles each way. A lot my friends think that is crazy, but I really enjoy the tranquility and more space away from the big city.

What has been most challenging in your career?
Probably having to wear many hats at once. At one point I was handling LAX domestic inbound and scheduling home deliveries for customers, while also keeping warehousing accounts inventory and email communication as well as supervising dayshift warehouse operations and physically helping on the dock. It was at times exhausting.

What are you most proud of in your career?
In my 33 plus years at Lynden I’ve never been in trouble with my superiors. I’ve always been a very professional, dedicated and loyal employee.

Can you tell us about your family and growing up years?
I was born in Honduras. I’m the oldest of seven siblings (five boys and two girls). Our mother ran a small grocery store and our father was a farmer. My wife, Mayra, and I have two children, Brenda and Kevin. Brenda works as an RDA in Dentistry and Kevin is a Gym Equipment Tech.

Some memories of my growing up experiences… I was a good student in school. In sixth grade I won a drawing contest. I remember spending the prize money (around $25) on accessories for my bicycle. I stayed out of trouble for the most part except for a couple of fights during middle school.

I’ve always played soccer. Around the time I grew up, most kids would play soccer because we could not afford to play sports that required special equipment or a court to play in. For soccer, all we needed was a $1 plastic ball and we could play, even on dirt streets. I didn’t play any instruments as musical instruments were a luxury my parents could not afford. I did enjoy listening to music on the radio, and sometimes cassette players. I was mostly an A and B student, but occasionally a C, because I would wait until it was time for final exams to study – which did not always go as expected! However, in my final year of high school, I graduated at the top of my class!

What was your first job?
I worked four years at Los Feliz Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. I started out feeding the animals and cleaning kennels, then learned to groom and prep animals for surgery.

What would surprise most people about you?
I’d say my handyman skills, I like building and fixing things. My most recent accomplishment is a greenhouse for my wife’s flowers. She loves it!

How do you spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy family outings, especially with my two grandkids Jacob and Sarah. I also enjoy playing soccer on weekends with the old guys like me (50 plus).

What do you like best about your job?
The overall work environment, but mostly the people I work closely with. I’m lucky to have a great team on my shift.
