“This was a pretty exciting move,” says Jake Holley, Alaska Marine Trucking Service Center Manager in Cordova. The City of Cordova’s backup generator went down, and the engine was not repairable. Cordova Electric Cooperative found a buyer for the generator in Texas, and the Alaska Marine Trucking crew hauled the 35-foot long, 8-feet wide, and 12-feet tall machine from the site to Whittier for an Alaska Marine Lines barge ride south to Seattle. “We took our large bull forklift to the location, hooked onto the trailer, hauled it to our yard, and loaded it on the barge,” says Jake. Freight Operations Specialists Tommy Marsh (left) and Anthony So were on point for the project (above). “This isn’t something we do every day, so planning was very important to safely and efficiently move this 50-ton load.” In Seattle, the AML team used a crane to pick the generator off the trailer to load it to a carrier bound for Texas.
