LTI, Inc. provides equipment for CDL program at Othello High School

Tue, Dec 19, 2023

milky_way_truck“We are all about helping CDL schools and driver and technician training programs,” explains Dave Seaman, LTI, Inc./Milky Way Director of Equipment and Maintenance in Sunnyside, WA. Dave assisted the Othello School District with locating and purchasing a used LTI, Inc. Freightliner tractor and Milky Way tanker for use in a new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program designed for high school students.

The program begins next year and is offered to 25 high school students to prepare them to become truck drivers. “We’ve really wanted to offer this program as a response to workforce need. We hope to be able to supply our region with more CDL-qualified graduates,” says Othello School District Student Services Director Amy Parris. “LTI, Inc. is a really cool company, and they are known for supporting educational institutions like us.”

Students must be 18 to get their permit to drive, so the class is offered at the end of senior year to attract as many students as possible. The district is also working with local companies, like LTI, Inc., to come in and speak to the students with the hopes some of the graduates may apply for jobs as drivers. Othello School District’s course will be considerably cheaper than other CDL training schools, with students paying for the permit, licensing and testing process only.
