Lynden Air Cargo just did what it does best. Known for its quick turnaround for Aircraft On Ground (AOG) emergencies, the Lynden Air Cargo team recently moved an aircraft engine from Atlanta to the Azores in the North Atlantic Ocean to replace a damaged motor for an A330. "Keeping other airlines running when they have an engine or other mechanical situation is one of our specialties," says Dan Marshall, Senior Commercial Operations Manager. "Often their maintenance crew is waiting for the engine when we land."
Lynden Air Cargo averages around 10 AOG engine hauls per year, ranging from Boeing 737 size engines up to Airbus A330s. "Typically we get the charters to take engines to locations that may have minimal or no typical cargo support equipment, such as main deck loaders or large forklifts," Dan explains. "We are able to roll these engines out onto the ground in their shipping cradles instead of relying on other support equipment." In addition to the Azores, recent AOG moves include Seattle, Los Angeles, Dublin, and Hawaii.
